Here is an itinerary that allows you to immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of Wuxi's musical legacy.

Hongshan National Archaeological Site Park

At the park, over 400 ancient musical instruments are on display, including sets of bianzhong (bronze chime bells), bianqing (chime stones), and fou (an ancient percussion instrument). These artifacts transport visitors back to the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), offering a glimpse into the musical traditions enjoyed by the aristocracy of the Yue Kingdom.  

Former Residence of Ah Bing

A visit to the Former Residence of Hua Yanjun, also known as Ah Bing, and the accompanying exhibition hall provides an intimate look at the life of one of China's most iconic folk musicians. Here, you'll not only trace the bittersweet journey of Ah Bing's life but also gain a profound appreciation of the emotional depth and soulfulness embedded in his music.

Former Residence of Zhu Dachun

Step into the Former Residence of Zhu Dachun, where a Kunqu Opera gathering awaits. The performances, organized by the century-old Tianyun Society, bring to life the elegance of this traditional art form. The melodic singing, poetic recitations, and graceful dances blend seamlessly with the serene atmosphere of this historic residence.

Chinese Folk Music Museum

The only comprehensive museum dedicated to traditional Chinese music in the country houses a collection of 574 types and 969 instruments. It offers an extensive overview of the evolution of Chinese folk music.

Former Residence of the Liu Brothers

This was the childhood residence of three brothers who left an indelible mark on Chinese cultural history. Liu Bannong is a pioneer in modern Chinese literature and linguistics. Liu Tianhua revolutionized traditional Chinese music, improving the erhu and pipa, and creating the first systematic instructional materials for these instruments. Liu Beimao composed over 100 erhu pieces, contributing greatly to the development of Chinese folk music.

Min Huifen Art Museum

Dedicated to the life and work of Min Huifen, hailed as the "Queen of Modern Erhu Performance", this museum chronicles her artistic journey. The museum houses a treasure trove of photographs, manuscripts, and recordings, capturing the essence of her extraordinary career and her contributions to modern Chinese music.
